The Watford Home Kit 1986/87

Goodbye to the Shrodells Stand. A throwback to the 1930's

News The Union/Shrodells Stand meets it's maker with the construction of what was to be named the Rous Stand. Costing 2.5 million it was different to the finished stand you see today.
Temporary Seats were place along the lower portion with the underneath of the Upper Rous was covered in cladding to disguise the empty shell underneath.
The new Stand was named after Watford president Sir Stanley Rous.

Kevin Richardson signs from Everton for £225,000. Mark Falco from Spurs and Steve Sims comes back from Notts County.

Out go Les Taylor to Reading, Brian Talbot to Stoke and Nigel Callaghan to Derby.

This season is best remembered for the FA Cup Semi-Final at Villa Park.

A match against spurs at Villa Park in the run up to the Semi Tony Coton broke his finger in training followed by Steve Sherwood who injured a finger in another session. We suddenly had no goalkeeper.
Enter Gary Plumley a part time goalkeeper and part time wine bar owner.
A fairy story? No we were stuffed 4-1 and Mr Plumley went back to wine.
The season finished with Watford in the top half of the table but with John Barnes off to Liverpool for an amazingly cheap £900k. Uncertainty lies ahead.

In the League we finish 9th out of 22 of Division 1.
We Won 18 Drew 9 Lost 15
We Scored 67 Goals and conceded 54.
