How he ran with all that hair is beyond me! A young Nigel Callaghan.

The Watford Home Kit 1981/82

No real change to the design or price of the programme this year.

News Callaghan, Blissett, Jenkins, Barnes if we could not go up with that lot running at defences we never would. We did go up.

Barnes making his debut against Oldham and staring on what passed for TV football on ITV's The Big Match against Norwich. I remember them raving about his skill, including showing the Norwich player the ball and inviting the player to take it off him. As the Norwich player attempted to Barnes rolled it back under his feet and was off passed the poor confused soul.

On the other wing was Nigel Callahan who was not as skilful as Barnes but could hit the ball with devastating accuracy. Blissett and Jenkins in the middle must have thought they were in heaven with this service and prosper they did.

In the League Cup we beat Manchester United (Again). In the FA Cup we beat top flight West Ham United. However Wrexham at home was the catalyst for celebration as it marked promotion to the top flight for the first time in Watford's History.

And who remembers the Football League Group Cup then? We reached the Quater Finals losing to Burnley in a competition that eventually died the following year.

As a footnote to the season we also won the FA Youth Cup for the first time, Winning 7-6 against Manchester United on Aggregate.

In the League we finish 2nd out of 22 of Division 2.
We Won 23 Drew 11 Lost 8
We Scored 76 Goals and conceded 42.
