Ross Jenkins received the player of the year award from two semi clad ladies from the Watford Observer. Changing attitudes meant latter winners received the award from Oliver Phillips. If he was in a leotard was not recorded.

News The Luther Blissett experience arrives. The partnership with Ross Jenkins thrives with Jenkins finishing the leagues highest scorer.
Watford splash the cash paying a Division 3 record of £175,000 for Steve Sims. £25k for Steve Harrison and £50k for Ray Train.

All this investment pays off as Watford go onto Division 2 at the first attempt, coming second to Shrewsbury Town.

However the League did not provide all the excitement as in the cups we beat Manchester United at Old Trafford 2-1 (two Blissett goals). Before going out in the Semi-Final to Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest.

Off the pitch;  A new stadium scoreboard was installed. this new electronic marvel could show messages from sponsors, show 'Come On You Horns' at opportune moments, have little men jumping up and down and most importantly have a little steam engine after Ray Trains name when announcing the team.  

New improved floodlight were installed via a floodlight fund that raised money during the 1977-78 season.

Eddie Plumley joins as Chief Executive from Coventry City.

Harry Hornet bites the dust. The new logo is launched at the beginning of the season, enter the Hert (Please note this is not a moose!).

In the League we finish 2nd out of 24 of Division 3.
